THE GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL has a rich and colorful history. It was built in 1907 as a symbol of San Francisco’s revitalization from the devastating earthquake of 1906 and its stunning architecture includes giant marble columns and ornate chandeliers. The main hall is rimmed with balconies on both sides and the hall is replete with beautiful turn-of-the-century Victorian-style frescoes.
The building began as a restaurant and brothel, then later served as a jazz hall. In 1972 it was converted to a venue for all manner of live performances. There are those who believe the building to be haunted by spirits from its former glory days as a house of ill repute. Nevertheless with its unique blend of history and stunning design, it is an iconic landmark like none other in San Francisco. Visit their website.

Monica has established a reputation as an impressive performer, offering audiences an engaging show of home-grown jazz and neo-soul. From her early training in classical piano, vocal jazz improvisation, and world music, to her release of two original neo-soul albums, Monica has proven to be an artist unafraid to reinvent herself. She performs with a dream team of heavy hitters from the bay area, each a star in their own right. A few of their most acclaimed performances were the KGO Cure-A-Thon (on-air radio performance), the San Jose Jazz Festival, and the Sunnyvale Jazz & Beyond Concert Series. Visit her website.
Phil Johnson, like everyone else, sometimes gets it and sometimes wonders what the heck people are thinking. He has appeared at the Sundance Film Festival aw well as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and uses comedy and music to dissect that dilemma in both his own life and others. On stage his playful humor and likeable, endearing manner allow him to shake things up without antagonizing the audience. In the end we can only be who we are, try to understand others, and hope they understand us. His unique mix of comedy, music, and kinda dorky performance is–without a doubt–hysterically funny! “You’ve got the wrong guy.” That was Steve Haworth’s response when asked to play the role of auctioneer for his daughter’s school fundraiser. Not only did the car dealership owner from Berkeley have no idea how to be an auctioneer, the idea of speaking in front of hundreds of people terrified him. Still, it was his wife and her friend who had organized the event, and Steve felt he couldn’t say, “No.” Good thing he didn’t. Fourteen years later and Steve is a sought-after auctioneer for many charity events, raising tens of millions of dollars a year. Visit his website.
